
Thai minister launches new Andaman tourism campaign

The Governor of Phuket Narong Woonciew joined Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn in Bangkok yesterday (May 9) for announcing the month-long ‘Aqua Lumina’ series of festivities, which would be held in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi for tourism promotion in the region.
The event is officially titled, “Aqua Lumina Illumination Festival, the Miracle of Light from the Andaman Sea,” and is scheduled to run from May 14 to June 12.
Mr. Phiphat said that the purpose of the festival is to make the economy stronger, support tourism in the region, and establish trust among both Thai and foreign visitors regarding quality of travel in the region.
Mr. Phiphat said that this is an opportunity for Thailand to showcase its tourism potential by organizing activities that comprise sports, arts, culture, and the combination of internationally-recognized innovation in holding activities for reaching the target market.
The fête would comprise music festivals, sports events, light-and-sound festival, and food fairs with local delicacies and leisure activities for improving travel (to the Andaman provinces) by Thai and international visitors.
Around 90,000 visitors, including Thais and foreigners, would take part in the activities bringing in revenue earnings of at least 700 million baht.
The Phuket phase of the Aqua Lumina event will be carried on under the theme, ‘Land of the Andaman Guardians,’ said Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Phuket celebrations would feature a stunning light-and-sound show.
