The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority will manage tour guides in the emirate, providing refresher courses along with training with fee breakdown clearly pinpointed.
Also, the authority has been entrusted to postpone or cancel a permit, if ther’s any violations, and has been given the responsibility of assessing regulations in other emirates to hold responsible if any found practising the profession without the required permits. The latest modification from Sharjah Executive Council on tour guides introduced at the right time as domestic tourism is witnessing a boom and the recovery post-pandemic situation continues to get a grip over the situation, promising higher visitor numbers in the coming days, said the Chairman of SCTDA, Khalid Al Midfa.
The decision stops any organisation from taking in tour guides who doesn’t have valid permits from SCTDA. It defines conditions where an individual must have a tour guide permit. Candidates above 18 years of age, speaking at least English and Arabic, and have passed the training programmes set by the Authority.
For one year, the tour guide license is valid and one can renew after passing the refresher course, offered by SCTDA every year. Not renewing the license for more than two years will make the license null and void, and the candidate will have to obtain a new permit once again.
To the tour guides, the responsibilities entrusted include showcasing Emirate’s positive image to the world.
